TORONTO -- Losers of 10 of their past 14 games, including a 14-1 rout Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays made some changes to their roster that included calling up top pitching prospect Aaron Sanchez. Sanchez and right-handed pitcher Esmil Rogers had their contracts selected from triple A-Buffalo and shortstop Ryan Goins was recalled from the Bisons. To make room, left-handed reliever Brad Mills was designated for assignment and catcher Erik Kratz and outfielder Darin Mastroianni were optioned to the minors. "You hope (to get a spark)," manager John Gibbons said. "That wasnt the purpose of it, but we could use a little bit of that, so well see. Itd bring a lot more excitement if we could get results on the field." The 22-year-old Sanchezs addition is the most intriguing, even as Gibbons said hell be used exclusively out of the bullpen. Sanchez was a first round pick of the Blue Jays in 2010 and is considered one of the top 50 prospects in baseball. "Hes got an overpowering, live fastball," Gibbons said. "He gets a lot of ground balls. Hes got a nice curveball. When hes on, hes a tough at-bat." Sanchez is a starter, but with 100 minor league innings under his belt already this season, the Blue Jays want to limit him to about 130. "We plan on using him," Gibbons said. "Were not going to baby him but well keep an eye on him." Sanchez said his first call upon learning he was going to the majors was made wearing just a towel in the visiting clubhouse Monday night in Allentown, Pa., where the Bisons were playing the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. The Bristow, Calif., native then rode up to Toronto on Tuesday. "This has been an unbelievable 24 hours for me," he said. It has been a forgettable 24 hours for the Blue Jays after getting smacked by the Boston Red Sox in the series opener at Rogers Centre. Mills, who gave up eight earned runs -- including two home runs to David Ortiz -- was the first victim and got designated for assignment because Toronto needed someone who could eat up innings Tuesday and beyond. Thatll be Rogerss job for now. "After last night, if something happens early in this game or it went extra innings we had no length out of anybody out there," Gibbons said. "(Rogers had) been pitching much better down there, too." Goins will "play a lot" at second base, according to Gibbons, who wouldnt go so far as to say he was the de facto starter there. With Brett Lawrie still injured, Munenori Kawasaki could see more time at third base, with Juan Fransisco shifting to first. Kratz was sent down, Gibbons said, because the Blue Jays dont need a right-handed-hitting catcher this week. They still have switch-hitting Dioner Navarro and lefty Josh Thole on the roster.

Prof. Aina Christina Lundgren was being questioned on her expertise regarding how long it takes a person to digest food after eating. The testimony relates to an autopsy report on Steenkamps body that said she still had food in her stomach after she was killed by Pistorius, leading prosecutors to challenge his story that the couple last ate around eight hours before he shot her through a toilet door. An expert testifying for the prosecution said a persons stomach is normally empty of food six hours after eating and Steenkamp ate much later on the night of the killing and not in line with Pistorius story. Prosecutors say thats because the couple were up arguing late into the night before Pistorius shot Steenkamp multiple times in the midst of a heated fight through a toilet stall door in his bathroom. Pistorius says he mistook her for an intruder hiding behind the closed toilet stall door. He testified the couple had dinner at around 7 p.m. on the night she was killed, and they were in bed around 10 p.m. Pistorius shot Steenkamp after 3 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2013. Lundgren, who described herself as a specialist anesthetist, testified that there are a number of factors that could have delayed the digestion process in Steenkamp to explain the food found in her stomach, including that she was a pre-menopausal woman and had been sleeping. Lundgren was presented by the defence to try and undermine the testimony of pathologgist Prof.dddddddddddd Gert Saayman, who said it was his opinion that Steenkamp ate much later than Pistorius says, possibly even at around 1 a.m. when the runner claims they were in bed. Lundgren said it was difficult to be exact about the rate of digestion and it was "speculative to attempt to estimate when she had last eaten." Chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel cross-examined Lundgren and pointed to Saaymans findings that he could even identify vegetable and cheese matter in Steenkamps stomach. "Would you not have expected the digestive process to have caused the contents to be unrecognizable after eight hours?" Nel asked Lundgren. "I cant comment," she replied. "But he can, and he did," Nel said of Saaymans report. The state pathologist was present in the courtroom and Nel asserted that his evidence was "more probable." Replying to Nels questions, Lundgren said she was a clinician and unwilling to criticize Saayman, a pathologist. However, later on re-examination by chief defence lawyer Barry Roux, she said she did not agree with Saaymans assertion that Steenkamp ate at 1 a.m. or after. Pistorius lawyers also said in a statement Thursday that an offer to buy the villa where the Olympian killed Steenkamp had been accepted and the sale of the house was being processed. Pistorius is selling his home in the gated community in the South African capital Pretoria to help with his legal bills. His trial is now into its seventh week of testimony. Lawyer Brian Webber said they would not identify who was buying the house or the amount it was being sold for until the sale was finalized. Pistorius last year valued the house at about $450,000.
