SEATTLE -- Working both sides of the plate and mixing in his changeup, Indians starter Josh Tomlin had little trouble keeping the Seattle Mariners at bay Saturday night. Tomlin threw the second complete game of his career, throwing a one-hitter with a career-high 11 strikeouts in Clevelands 5-0 victory over Seattle . Tomlin (5-5) didnt walk a batter and a leadoff single by Kyle Seager in the fifth inning was the only blemish on his evening. It was the second complete game of Tomlins career and the first one-hitter by a Cleveland pitcher since Billy Traber did it against the Yankees on July 8, 2003. "He commanded so well," manager Terry Francona said. He was expanding (the strike zone). He showed in to keep them honest and then hed go away. A little farther. A little farther, just leading guys to pitches. "That was just a tremendous outing." Its only the third time since 2002 that a pitcher has recorded a one-hit shutout with at least 11 strikeouts and no walks. St. Louis Shelby Miller struck out 13 in a 3-0 victory over Colorado on May 10, 2013. San Franciscos Matt Cain equaled Tomlin with 11 strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh on April 13, 2012. "I felt good and I knew I was commanding the ball well to both sides of the plate," Tomlin said. "I had to have a good changeup today to get them off everything else." The Indians jumped on Mariners starter Roenis Elias (7-6) for a pair of runs in the first inning. Asdrubal Cabrera doubled and scored on a single from Michael Brantley. Brantley advanced to second on the throw home and scored on a double by Carlos Santana to give the Indians a 2-0 lead. Mike Aviles singled with one out in the fifth and came around to score on Michael Bourns double. A balk by Elias moved Bourn to third and Cabreras sacrifice fly scored Bourn to give the Indians a 4-0 lead. Meanwhile, the Mariners couldnt solve Tomlin. He retired the first 12 batters he faced with some help from right fielder Ryan Raburn. He tracked down a deep line drive from Seager with a diving grab on the warning track in the second inning. "Great catch," Francona said. "Im glad it doesnt get lost two hours later because that was a really nice play." Seager singled to lead off the fifth and took second on a wild pitch and advanced to third when the throw from catcher Yan Gomes sailed into centre field. He was stranded when Tomlin struck out Michael Saunders to end the inning. "Our at-bats were not at-bats we want to talk about," Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said. "We want to forget about them. It was one of those nights." Gomes homered off Elias in the sixth inning to extend Clevelands lead to 5-0. Its also a franchise record. We just knew going into that third period that our third is always our best and we had a chance to win it and we knew those were two big points, said Bouma. Weve done it a lot this year and we definitely have the belief in here going into the third period, whether were down by three or down by two, that we can come back in the game.Adding to the drama, the Flames had been shutout in its previous five periods.Guys never quit. As soon as we got one, there was electricity on the bench and guys were moving, said Calgary coach Bob Hartley. Guys show confidence. Were not scared of being down in the score, it doesnt rattle us. We find a way to get those big wins.Calgary has scored 62 third period goals, which also leads the NHL. The 32 goals against is also No. 1 in the league.Paul Byron got the comeback started after deflecting in Mason Raymonds shot at 2:56 for his first goal in 29 games. The sell-out Scotiabank Saddledome crowd of 19,289 then erupted when Bouma tied it 2-2 at 6:16, snapping a shot through the pads of Ben Scrivens. The go-ahead goal came 2:33 after that on a power play. Sean Monahan tried to centre a pass but instead the puck deflected past Scrivens off the skate of Oilers defenceman Keith Aulie. It was the team-leading 16th goal for the 20-year-old sophomore. Four have them have been game-winners.We werent ready to play in the third, summed up Scrivens. How many times do we have to go through it before we learn our lesson? Hopefully its this one.Jordan Eberle, who had a goal and an assist, says the team only has itself to blame. It was simple mistakes. We shot ourselves in the foot tonight, said Eberle. We turned a couple pucks over and I mean, its just been kind of the same case. Every guy in the room has done it. Myself, a lot of guys. It seems like every night theres a couple plays that shoot us and thats where we lost.Bouma wrapped up the barrage at 16:27 converting a two-on-one pass from Mikael Backlund. The 24-year-old had a couple chances for the hat-trick when Edmonton pulled the goalie but he couldnt get it in.ddddddddddddwo empty nets. I dont know what happened, probably got a little excited but thats the way it goes, but Ill take the two, said Bouma, who has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in his last nine games. Its always nice to contribute whenever you can. Obviously right now, were rolling and its been a fun go here lately, we just have to keep it going. It was an important victory for Calgary (27-20-3). It moves the club three points up on the Los Angeles Kings, who are chasing the Flames for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.Benoit Pouliot also scored for Edmonton (13-28-9), who remains second-last in the NHLs overall standings, four points up on Buffalo.I think they came out and played for the win. They went after it and I think obviously we were on our heels too much, just kind of waiting to win. That doesnt work, said Oilers captain Andrew Ference.Jonas Hiller had 17 stops for Calgary to improve his record to 15-14-2 while Scrivens had 29 saves for Edmonton, falling to 9-17-7.Edmonton struck first, opening the scoring at 2:43 on its second shot of the game.Off a faceoff in the Flames end, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins out worked Matt Stajan for the puck, knocking it into the slot where Eberle put a quick shot past Hiller. It was the fifth game in a row Calgary has given up the first goal.Eberle then set up Pouliot at 11:41 for his 11th goal.Going back to New Years Eve, Eberle has 11 points- including seven goals in his last 13 games.Pouliot has been hot also with eight goals in his last dozen games since returning from a broken foot, which sidelined him for 18 games.Notes: The Flames had gone 105:28 without a goal until Byron scored... The Oilers last three-game road winning streak was Mar. 23 to Apr. 1, 2012... Jiri Hudler (ill), tied for the Flames lead in point, did not play. In his spot, 25-year-old David Wolf made his NHL debut. However, Wolf (lower body) left the game in the third period and didnt return... Aulie played for the first time since taking a match penalty on New Years Eve for a hit on Flames C Matt Stajan.
