Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - SirDominic Pointer posted career highs of 24 points and seven steals to lead No. 17 St. Johns to an 82-57 rout of Tulane at Barclays Center. The Red Storm (11-1) built a 47-22 halftime lead and forced 17 turnovers in moving to 11-1, the programs best 12-game start since the 1985-86 season. I thought in the first half we had quick hands, Red Storm head coach Steve Lavin remarked. We turned up the heat a bit and played with purposeful pressure. DAngelo Harrison contributed 21 points and Rysheed Jordan had 12 in St. Johns seventh straight victory since a loss to No. 8 Gonzaga on Nov. 28. Jonathan Stark paced Tulane (9-3) with 15 points and Louis Dabney finished with 12 in the loss, the Green Waves second this week to a ranked opponent. Tulane was coming off a 66-57 setback at No. 13 Washington on Monday. Tulane hit five of its first seven shots, but went 4-of-18 over the remainder of the opening half and committed 11 turnovers, many of which led to easy St. Johns points in transition. Four of those miscues came during an 18-5 Red Storm run that turned an early deficit into a 24-14 lead just past the midway mark of the first half. Seven straight points, capped by Pointers layup off one of his six steals of the period, later on had St. Johns up comfortably at 31-16 with 5 1/2 minutes to go before the intermission. Their toughness on the defensive end really got them going on the offensive end and gave them a lot of confidence, Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said of St. Johns. Obviously, our execution on the offensive end was not what is needed to be as far as taking care of the basketball and taking the right shots. The Red Storm finished out the stanza with a flourish, closing the half on a 14-0 tear to account for their 25-point advantage at the break. Jordan ended the frame with a run-out slam after blocking a shot. Tulane failed to cut its deficit under 21 points during an evenly played second half in which Harrison put up 13 points to help St. Johns stay in front by a sizeable margin. Game Notes Harrison has now scored 1,829 career points and passed both Zendon Hamilton and Bob Zawoluk to occupy fourth place on the Red Storms all-time list ... Jordan returned to action after sitting out Mondays win over Long Beach State with a stomach virus ... Pointers previous career best was 18 points, set against LIU-Brooklyn on Nov. 19 ... The Red Storms seven-game win streak is their first since Nov. 22-Dec. 20, 2008 ... Tulane has lost 30 straight to ranked teams ... "He came up to me and said, I want to train," said Toronto coach Ryan Nelsen. The 26-year-old midfielder is expected to play Saturday night when Toronto hosts D.C. Check out todays trade-related reports and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca through Deadline Day for all the updates. Miller Time TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun writes on ESPN.com that Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray is already hearing calls for his pending unrestricted free agents. "Were just starting to explore the market the last day or two," Murray said. "Ive had some calls, and most of the calls are just generalities: If I can meet your demand, would you be willing to move him? So you have teams calling, for sure, and theyre asking about different players. Every team has a different need; the same names come up, obviously, as far as the forwards go. My mandate here is to get better. I dont want a five-year rebuild, thats not what Im about. Its about getting better, and if that means trading guys and getting assets for them, then thats the way it will be." Murray is also considering all of his options with pending UFA Ryan Miller, including the possibility of re-signing him. LeBrun adds that if Miller isnt interested in staying, Murray will move him at the trade deadline. Sticking With The Tandem Michael Traikos of The National Post writes that Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis admitted that he has been received several calls regarding goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and James Reimer, but has no intentions to break them up right now.dddddddddddd "I havent thought that too far, but could I see a scenario where both goalies were back next season? Yes," he told the paper. "Weve gone this far because of our goaltending. Jon is on a bit of a roll, but James has been really good for us. "I would never write James Reimer off." Oilers Options Jonathan Willis writes in the Edmonton Journal that while a skilled veteran forward like Ales Hemsky could be appealing to another NHL team, the Oilers have needs (size up front and blue line help) that the return on trading Hemsky trade wont address. Willis suggests a player like Jordan Eberle or Nail Yakupov – younger players with attractive contracts right now - would be more helpful. Time To Talk? Newsdays Arthur Staple writes that contract talks could begin soon between the Thomas Vaneks agent and the New York Islanders. If Vanek isnt willing to re-sign a long-term deal, Staple thinks theyll dangle him at the trade deadline. Staple adds that theres been talks between the Islanders and soon-to-be UFA blueliner Andrew MacDonald. Staple says hes seeking a contract at about $5 million per season.
